Complete the following activities as you rotate through our weekly math stations. Please complete the activity at your current station before moving on to the next one. Any instructions you need for each station will be provided on this page.
iPads
Follow the narrated lesson on the Brainingcamp Fractions app.
Once the lesson is over, use the manipulative tool to create different equivalent fractions.
Using a sheet of paper, please record the equivalent fractions that you find while using the Brainingcamp fractions app.
Also record the non-equivalent fractions you find.
Explain on your piece of paper the difference between equivalent fractions and fractions that aren't equivalent.
Please use drawings to support your explanations.
Worksheet
Since this is the first lesson, we have a worksheet station.
You will use this worksheet station in order to reenforce the concepts from the video.
You will complete the worksheet that is attached below
Once the worksheet is completed, Please check your work with a partner.
Once you are both happy with your answers, please check your work using the provided answer key.
Manipulatives
For your manipulative station, you will be creating a manipulative for you to reference during this unit.
Please look at the fraction strip example below.
You will be creating those fraction strips using construction paper
Cut out 8 Fraction Strips.
Measure (using a ruler) your fractions for each strip.
Color each strip a different color
Talk to a partner about what you notice between the fraction strips.
Please put your fraction strips into a plastic bag for use later.
Bring your whiteboard and marker to work with Mr. Mattie.
You will begin by reviewing equivalent fractions and how to find them. Mr. Mattie will give you the fractions we are using once the group has begun. Following the think about it, write it, and show it to me structure, you will be tasked with solving the problems on your whiteboard.
Mr. Mattie will introduce the concept of of cross-multiplying. You will share what you believe cross multiplication is.
You will work with Mr. Mattie to learn how to cross-multiply. Using the think about it, write it, show me it format, you will solve cross-multiplication problems on your whiteboard.
You will discuss why you believe you can cross-multiply in order to show fraction equivalence.

Challenge Station
Please return to the Brainingcamp fractions app.
Answer the questions under the "Questions" section of the app.
After answering the questions, open up the Brainingcamp Fraction Manipulative app (this is a separate app).
Use the fraction strips to find corresponding percents.
Explain (on a piece of paper) how the percents are related to the fractions you have been woking with for this lesson.
Create an equivalent fractions/percents chart.
If you have already made your fraction strips, you will record your percents on the strips, if not, you will record your answer on a piece of paper.
This station is difficult. you may work with a partner in order to complete the tasks.
